Thousands in rebates available for ME and NH homes
Efficient Home Services, LLC is based in Berwick, Maine. We provide home energy audits, insulation and air sealing, and blower door and duct leakage testing for homeowners and builders, including energy code air leakage testing for new construction. We also offer crawlspace repair. We serve York County, Maine, including Berwick, Kittery, York, Wells and Sanford, and Seacoast New Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Dover and Rochester.
A home energy audit is the best place to start. We test the house with a blower door, use an infrared (thermal) camera to see missing insulation and hidden air leaks, look at heating and ventilation, and give you a prioritized list of improvements, plus help with available rebates. From there we can handle the work: insulation and air sealing in attics, walls and basements, duct sealing for forced-air systems, ERV and HRV ventilation for tighter homes, and crawlspace repair. Builders and contractors rely on us for blower door and duct leakage testing to meet the energy code. Solar and other upgrades are available through our partner services.
Every home energy audit we do starts with a blower door test. A calibrated fan in an exterior doorway depressurizes the house so we can measure how leaky it is and find where the drafts are coming from. Builders use the same test to show a new home meets the energy code air leakage requirement. Learn more about blower door and duct leakage testing, or see what's included in a home energy audit.
Air leaks are often the largest source of wasted heat in a home, and most of them are hidden in attics, rim joists, basements and around chimneys and plumbing. A blower door test puts a number on how leaky the house is and, while the house is under pressure, an infrared thermal camera inspection shows exactly where cold air is getting in and where insulation is missing or settled, so air sealing goes where it actually helps. Testing before and after the work shows the improvement. It also matters for health and safety: as a house gets tighter, ventilation and combustion appliances need to be checked, which is why we test for both. For new homes and additions, a blower door test is how builders show they meet the air leakage requirement in the energy code, and many ducted systems also need a duct leakage test.
